Lack of appreciation for office plants

As a generalisation most small business owners take quite a paternalistic approach to their staff.

Working in a small team engenders a family like environment and we try to ensure (within budgetary constraints) that staff remain happy, are kept motivated and looked after with comfortable office chairs, air conditioning, nice coffee and tea stations including biscuits which in the main are really appreciated.

Now it might raise a wary smile, but surprisingly the opposite is true for office plants! They are meant to provide a more decorative working environment with health benefits such as a calming effect to reduce stress and clearer air through emission of oxygen.

I am not sure why, but plants seem only to become a repository for the dregs of tea and coffee cups. Sadly a recent lovely Ficus (yes that’s a plant) has died in our office after being regularly watered by the cleaner and added to by staff with mouldy tea and coffee and we finally discovered where the smell was coming from!

Please look after your poor plants!
